Short Bio

Kate received her BFA in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art and obtained her MFA in painting from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a working artist living and showing in the Cleveland area. She has shown her work locally as well as in New York and Virginia.

Statement

My work is an example of the kinds of things I wish to see in the world embodied through expressive and sometimes overworked materials. With paint it’s possible for hybrid moments of chaos and control to be suspended indefinitely. Marks and brushstrokes can accumulate and converge within dynamic compositions. Artistic and stylistic references can emerge and dissolve within the same picture. Multiple layers of spatial distortions and techniques that are both familiar and strange coexist within a painted mindscape. I invite the viewer to discover imagery beneath layered materials and processes as they move throughout the imaginary space.
